Tanzania has banned 13 local songs on grounds that they are against the country’s norms and values.
Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) announced the ban on Wednesday after receiving a list of the songs from the National Arts Council of Tanzania (Basata).
“The said records have lyrics which violate ethics of regulations of broadcasting services (Content) 2005,” TCRA said in a statement to media.
The said records have lyrics which violate ethics of regulations of broadcasting services (Content) 2005.
Top Tanzanian pop artist Diamond Platinumz is one of the people affected by the ban. His songs Hallelujah and Waka are on the list of prohibited songs.
Other prohibited Bongo songs are Pale Kati Patamu by Ney wa Mitego, Chura and Nimevurugwa by Snura, Hainaga Ushemeji by Manifongo, I’m Sorry JK by Nikki Mbishi, Kibamia by Roma Mkatoliki, Tema Mate Tumchape by Madee, Uzuri Wako by Jux, Nampa Papa by Gigy Money and Nampaga by Barnaba.
Last December, President John Magufuli complained about obscene music videos.
Magufuli enjoyed popular applause from Tanzanians and admirers beyond his country when he implemented a rarely seen crackdown on wastage of public resources after being elected in 2015.
His actions including unannounced visits to government facilities and cancellation of Independence celebrations inspired a hashtag on social media, #WhatWouldMagufuliDo. Many were singing his praises.
His popularity has however dwindled as he has come under sharp criticism over some of his policies and clampdown on opposition.
Some of the decisions that have attracted public wrath include his declaration that young girls who become pregnant while in school should not be allowed to finish their studies after giving birth.
Last year, he also sparked public outrage when he pardoned two musicians who had been handed life sentences for raping 10 young girls.
Magufuli has also been accused of cracking down on the media, opposition and targeting politicians critical of his leadership.
Cameroonian celebs hide in shame in the face of Damasus’ unsettling twitter tirades
June 17th, 2019. Nigerian celebrity and right advocate Stella Damasus took to her platform of choice, twitter to join her voice among the growing list of celebs and diplomats to call for urgent attention to the Anglophone problem rocking Nigeria’s neighbor “I am not really interested in talking about the soccer match right now. We need to talk about the situation in Cameroon. The country needs help. Have you seen videos of women and babies being killed? I don’t understand how this is okay?”

In a span of 6 hours, the popular award winning actress tweeted 7 times about the Anglophone crisis, calling killings a “genocide” and questions why the conflict is not generating the desired attention
I wonder why this #Cameroon issue does not have the kind of media coverage that it deserves. This is #genocide and we are acting like it doesn’t matter. African leaders keep acting like the presidency is the birthright or inheritance. What the hell? #helpcameroon

A spasm of social media by her own standard. A….well, you get the idea. It was a lot, sparking social media debate about what really caused the Twitter tirades back in Cameroon
This is not the first time she is adding her voice to issues of continental ramifications or even the world at large.
From Sudan to Mozambique, UK to Cameroon the US-based actress seems obsessed with her desire for a better Africa and rightly so considering her humble upbringing. Her twitter outings have been warmly received by the Anglophone community in Cameroon, a people who feel abandoned by their own Politicians and forgotten by their own celebs that have refused to use their voice to bring change when social responsibility come calling.
Cameroonian celebrities on the large part have betrayed the people, maintaining unforgivable silence in the face of atrocities in their own country. Many have come under the sword for failing to use their influence to speak out and force Yaoundé to find an urgent and lasting solution to a crisis which has killed many. Damasus describe the killings in Anglophone Cameroon as “genocide” and called on anybody who uses social media to add their voices.
I am calling on every organization out there , every media personality, every blogger, everyone who has social media and can type a message. Pls spread the word. People are dying, babies are being killed please. We can put a post on our pages and condemn this. #helpcameroon
— Stella Damasus (@stelladamasus) June 17, 2019
But while her hasty conclusion and characterization about the former might be easily forgiven, the killings which are ongoing in the Anglophone regions are alarming and begging for international recognition and intervention. Four months old toddlers have been shot by bullets at close range, patients burnt in hospital live, 70 years old burnt along with entire villages and many more disappeared through kidnappings and killings, it’s a kind of story reminiscent of a horror movie which is playing in Cameroon’s soil and shockingly ignored by mainstream media.
“I wonder why this #Cameroon issue does not have the kind of media coverage that it deserves” Stella weeps as she continues to tweet. Rights groups have held the government culpable for most of the crimes and blame Yaoundé for the worsening crisis.
But government insist they have acted professionally, denies any wrongdoing and puts the blame on the armed civilian fighters whom they say wants to destabilize Cameroon. The results have been no school for about three years, daily fighting in villages and towns in the affected regions and hundreds of thousands displaced in and out of the country with Nigeria thousands of refugees.
If you know anyone who can help, if you have connections with the @UN or any agency please reach out to them and speak out. If your country was in the middle of this and you had to run for your life, you would want ppl to speak up and find help. #helpcameroon

By taking fellow celebrities to the task, the Nigerian entertainer has demonstrated the role of celebrity in the face of such brutality, given Cameroonian superstars a textbook example on how to add their voices in the face of adversity Cameroonian celebrities need to wake up and the time is now
Stella Damasus is a Nigerian born entertainer based in the United States of America. She is most notable for her work as an actress has been in the Entertainment Industry for over two decades and has since been considered to be one of the most popular film actresses from Africa. Stella who had owned and performed with a music band for over a decade recently released her first-ever solo studio recorded gospel album titled “THE ALTERNATIVE”.
Canal D’or 2019: Daphne demean Anglophones in front of Chantal Biya in a shocking award speech
The 12 edition of the famous Canal D’or is over and reverberations of the award night are still making waves on social media
As award which seeks to celebrate entertainers in the country, canal D’or has been the center piece of elite gathering of entertainers in the country every year
Graced by the first lady and bench of government ministers who usually trail her, the award is arguably the most prestigious award in the country and the dream of any entertainer to win a prize there.
The 12th edition which took place at the famous Yaoundé Conference center yesterday 9th March 2019 was no different in ambiance and colors
Designers, politicians and the who is who in the country’s growing entertainment industry struggled for apace in the beautiful and renovated hall.
While Anglophone A list stars backed home most of the awards of the nights as famous names like Nkeng Stephens, Mr Leo, Daphne, all backed home prices, the celebs failed to advance the course of the suffering masses back home which as forced most of them to relocate to Douala due to insecurity
But the biggest of them all was artists Daphne who won four awards including the much coveted best female musician of the year, an award which has never be won by an artists from English speaking part of the country in the award’s 1 years history
Daphne’s biggest moments also came with big expectation as many saw the opportunity as a moment of glory. But the calee singer failed to satisfy and gave a brief uninspiring speech.
Congrats to Daphne2 but you failed to use the big stage to make meaning of it ….her speech as best female artist was disgraceful and belittling to English speaking Cameroonians
At a time where her brothers, sisters and mothers are in the bushes, many dying of bullet wounds as the Anglophone crisis worsens, what better stage would she have craved for than the one she had last night in front of the first lady.
She had a golden opportunity to bring their plight to the world as a woman before being an artist.
She embarrassingly and naively said if they had told her an Anglophone would one day win that category should wouldn’t have believed, as if to say Canal D’or is a “national” course. She also went ahead to ignorantly shout “Anglophone oyeah”
Critics say she would have used the moments to add her voice on the plights of Anglophones especially women and young girls who continue to suffer the most in front of the mother of the nation and
Chris Brown Arrested On Charges Of Rape In Paris
A judiciary source in Paris confirmed to NPR’s Eleanor Beardsley on Tuesday that Chris Brown has been detained, along with two other unnamed individuals, on charges of “aggravated rape” and multiple narcotics offenses, and that they currently remain in police custody.
The French magazine Closer reported on Monday evening that an unnamed 24-year-old woman has accused Brown of raping her in his suite at Paris’ Mandarin Oriental hotel, during the night of Jan. 15-16. The woman told Paris police that she met Brown in a nightclub in central Paris earlier that evening, and that Brown invited her, along with other women, back to his suite. At some point in the evening, she alleged, she found herself in a room alone with Brown, and that it was then that he allegedly raped her. Brown’s accuser also said that a friend of the singer and his bodyguard also abused her.
In 2009, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault for attacking his then-partner, the singer and entrepreneur Rihanna; she was granted a restraining order, and Brown was ordered to community service and domestic violence counseling.
Last May, Brown, rapper Young Lo and an unknown woman were among those suedby a woman who alleged that she was repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted and falsely imprisoned by Young Lo at Brown’s house in 2017.
A request for comment from Brown’s management was not immediately returned.
On Tuesday evening Paris time, Brown posted a vociferous denial on Instagram, writing in part: “I WANNA MAKE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR…… THIS IS FALSE … FOR MY DAUGHTER AND MY FAMILY THIS IS SO DISPRESPECTFUL [sic] AND IS AGAINST MY CHARACTER AND MORALS!!!!!”
