A grieving Bafoussam opens it heart for visiting Kamto

President of Cameroon Renaissance Movement MRC Maurice Kamto is the latest among the list of personalities to visit Gouatchie-Bafoussam landslide victims

The West region has been on the spotlight following the deadly landslide on October 28th 2019 in Gouatchié which killed more than 50 persons, leaving the region in shock and the nation searching its fragile political soul.

Combative and tireless MINAT boss Paul Atanga Nji was one of the first senior senior government officials to arrive the scene with a 200 million package and a three man ministerial delegation after local adminsiators, opening the gates to high profile celebrity visits like rapper Stanley Enow, singer Wax Dey and now government nemesis Kamto with the prime minister awaited there on November 9th 2019.

Images of “I am Bafoussam” has were quick to trend on social media, government responded speedily to the crisis, drawing rare applause from the population even though many agree they have to do more to prevent future disastsers which should be preventable if housing market is properly regulated and citizens evicted from unsafe zones.

Amongst the list of high profile dignagories and celebrities who have visited victims of the landslide in Bafoussam lately, most of their welcoming pale in comparison with the crowd size which welcomed Maurice Kamto today November 7th 2019

The son of the soil and opposition leader is visiting his region of origin for the first time since he was released by a Presidential pardon on October 5th 2019 after the major national dialogue

Kamto’s visist to a people in mourning drew thousands of supporters and sympathizers of his party who trooped the city streets to welcome an illustrious son.

Denizens of Bafoussam carried olive branches (which symbolizes  Peace) and some wore t-shirts of his party, barricaded the streets as many struggle to have a glimpse of a man whose supporters say is the winner of the 2018 Presidential election-one of the very reasons he was jailed earlier this year.

Maurice Kamto was in no political mode none the less, refusing to take advantage of the people’s plights for political gains as he went about consoling victims and visiting hospitals to see for himself the degree of damages caused by the disaster which has kep the nation mourning.

It’s the first time he is seen in the public after his release from prison. He wasn’t seen during a foiled protest organized by his party in some areas of the country last week end.

A very close friend to Nkeng Lizette, killed and abandoned at a student hostel in Buea has describe the girl as nice, hardworking and intelligent

Tifuh Sandrine who has known Lizette for years now was speaking to TeboPost this day May 25th 2020, saying her friend was anything but those she now reads on social media

She describe the deceased as reserved with strong facility values and says she was from a very comfortable home.

“ it’s pains me when I read online and Peoppe say she was dating men for me money” Tifuh told TeboPost before adding, she was from a very comfortable home, went to one of the most expensive universities in this country was was suppose to be abroad if not for coronavirus for her post graduate program

She wasn’t into men as people put it and wasn’t materialistic beceuse her family provided her with all her needs

Her remarks about the deceased is in sharp contrast to what has been trending on social media where reports say she was dating two boys for money and was allegedly killed by one of them

The corpse of Nkeng Lizette was found in a hostel in Buea on May 23 2020 while already at an advance stage of decomposition

Reports say she had been killed five days later by unidentified person(s).

She was immediately buried by the hygiene and sanitation unit of Buea council.

Cameroonians have taken to social media to decry viral image of a medic accompanying a coronavirus patient to a hospital on foot

According to reports from Abong bang, A town in the east region of Cameroon, the patient was accompanied on foot beceuse the hospital does not have an ambulance

The viral image has raised question about government’s readiness to fight coronavirus in the country

On April 28, the world health organization came under fire for donating 14 luxurious vehicles to Cameroon as support to fight coronavirus

In a country with struggling healthcare system, many criticize the move, saying what the country needs more ambulances and other tools necessary to fight coronavirus rather than a fleet of luxurious cars for officials to speed around Yaounde.

As of today May 21st 2020, Cameroon has 3,733 infected cases with 1,595 recoveries and 146 deaths

Biya’s medical equipment to kumba district hospital disappears

The director of the kumba district hospital has questioned the where about of some medical equipment donated to the kumba district hospital by the president of the Republic Paul Biya.

Dr. Enongene Paul raised the question on Friday 15 may 2020 during a ceremony to receive medical equipment and a medical Ambulance offered to the hospital by the Head of state. The donation from the Head of state to the kumba district hospital which includes a medicalised Ambulance, 100 hospital beds and 100 hospital mattresses, two mobile x- ray machines, two portable ultra sound machines and three surgical kits, all these equipment did not reached its final destination as it was despatched by territorial administration minister Paul Atanga Nji
Speaking during the reception ceremony of these items, the director of the hospital said unfortunately at the time of delivery of the equipment, the two portable ultra sound machines and the three surgical kits were not amongst the items his hospital received despite the fact that they were well spelt out on the dispatched order from the office of the Governor of the south west region Bernard okalia Bilai. ” The big question is where are the two ultrasound machines and the three surgical kits ” Dr. Enongene lamented. With the disappearance of some of these presidential gesture to the kumba district hospital, tongues are now wagging as who is keeping the rest of the equipment when the dispatch order show all have been delivered to it’s final destination.
Receiving the items, Dr. Enongene expressed gratitude to president Paul Biya for coming to the aid of the hospital since part of the institution was raized on the 11 of February 2019 by unknown men stating that these gifts will go a long way to boost patients intake that had dropped due to lack of beds and other equipment to meet up with the population demand. The hospital had 188 beds but 80 were consumed by fire, its lone ambulance set ablaze along the kumba-Buea high way amongst other difficult the hospital has been going through since the fire incident on the hospital.
Handing over Paul Biya’s gift to the hospital, the senior divisional officer for meme Chamberlin Ntou’ou Ndong urged the regional Delegate of public health for the south west region Dr. Ebongo Zacks Nanje to provide the missing medical equipment to his office before this week runs out. The meme SDO wonders why will equipment destined for a hospital in kumba disappears between Buea and kumba with no concrete explanation.
It should be noted that the kumba district hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in the south west region and calls have multiplied for it to be upgraded to referral hospital.
